The year is coming to a close and for the first time in I don’t know how long, I can say it was a great year overall. There were a few bumps along the way, of course, but nothing major. Nothing that actually matters at the end of the day thankfully. Although I feel that I did not get some things done (my own fault), I still want to reflect on what I accomplished.
First things first, I attempted skiing. I say attempted because I definitely didn’t learn a thing. LOL. Don’t you dare sideeye me…..it was HARD! You can judge ya mama. Hmph! I’m pretty proud of myself for even trying but I just could not catch on. I can still mark that off of my unofficial bucket list.
I launched this site! Very big thing for me to be brave enough to put myself out to the world. I’ve had blogging in mind for about 3-4 years but 2017 was my year to truly step out on faith. Surprisingly, people actually like what I write. Who would have known?!
I was blessed with the opportunity to not only attend but cover the Dru Hill 20th Anniversary concert. Thanks again VLions Entertainment! Check out my recap here.
I was shown some west coast love from my fellow lowcounty native, KeKe. She’s the founder of the NewGeechee Podcast. She started a series called #YMPsInTheCity where she interviewed Young Melanated Professionals asking about what’s popping around the town. I was chosen for #CharLIT. Thanks again girl. Check out the episode and all of the other episodes as well here.
Next up was the Beats N’ Bars Festival in Durham, NC! She, her, me had the opportunity to attend this event and was able to interview one of my favorite lyricists/rappers, Nick Grant. Thanks again to my guy over at Funk Shun for the connect and thanks again to my girl Zabrina of the Charlotte In Crowd for all of her help! See the interview here.
I celebrated my birthday in the BEAUTIFUL country of Barbados! Such a blessing. If you have not been, please go. You will not be disappointed with anything, I promise ya! Recap is right here.
Last but most certainly not least, I decided to let go any ounce of chill I may have had left in my body and post a twerking video on Instagram. No, it is not what you think. Let me explain. I switched up my hair with a middle part bob for the winter. I looked in the mirror the next morning and immediately said to myself, “You look like Tina Belcher from Bob’s Burgers”. So, when I got to work, I mentioned this to my coworker Tika and next thing I know, we’re recording me as the Tina twerking gif. *shrug* I posted it to IG and although I did not go viral (I’m thankful, lowkey), I still have thousands of views and hundreds of comments thanks to the re-posters. Lol. I’m officially a #mood and that is enough for me.
See it again below!
Through all of this, there were still a few lows this year. My emotions were all over the place, I lost some friends, plus more. My life is still not put together but I’m still pushing through until it gets there. I encourage everyone to take the time to look back at all you accomplished this year. This felt amazing! As always, I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read my posts. Have a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
